Parent Northstar buys home-based agent shows, announces“Travel Weekly’s CruiseWorld 2010”
Secaucus, NJ, January 4, 2010 - Northstar Travel Media, the parent company of Travel Weeklyand other media brands serving the travel and meetings industries, has acquired The Original Home Based TravelAgent Show and Conference from Real Trade Shows, Inc., owned by Charles “Chip” Caruso and Tanya Caruso. Simultaneously, it announced the launch of Travel Weekly’s CruiseWorld 2010, a show for travel agents who sell cruise vacations. This will be the first major trade show produced byTravel Weekly, the leading travel trade brand serving the US market. The event will include a major educational conference including the leaders of the global cruise industry. Real Trade Shows has produced two annual Home Based Travel Agent trade shows, a spring and fall event, for the last several years. In 2009, the shows were produced in Chicago in the Spring and Atlantic City in the fall. These are leisure travel industry trade shows serving the growing community of independent travel professionals. The two shows will co-locate April 14-16, 2010 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center. Both shows will carry the Travel Weekly brand, said publisher Bob Sullivan. “We’re very proud to add these shows to the Travel Weekly portfolio,” he said. “Travel Weekly’s focus has always been about topical, relevant content, whether in print, online or face-to-face.”The Home Based Travel Agent Shows have been very successful, Sullivan said, and attracted 1,294 agents to Atlantic City last October. “We want to bring it to the next level for agents,” he said. “By co-locating the two shows, we expect that home agents will have full access to Travel Weekly’s CruiseWorld programming, in addition to tracks designed specifically for home agents.”
Travel Weekly editor in chief Arnie Weissmann said the side-by-side conference will include ship inspections and keynotes and panels featuring top industry executives. Workshops will also be featured. The headquarters hotel for both shows will be the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina Hotel, near the convention center. People in the travel and meetings spaces, in particular, understand the value of face-to-face events. It is our goal to exceed their already high expectations.”
